WAFU ZONE B U-17 CHAMPIONSHIP: Black Starlets fail to qualify for third successive U-17 AFCON

Date:

The Black Starlets have failed to qualify for the 2025 U-17 AFCON Championship after losing 1-2 to Burkina Faso on Saturday night.

Ghana went into the semifinals of the 2024 WAFU Zone B Championship unbeaten in the group stages, scoring seven goals and conceding once.

Laryea Kingston’s boys fell behind early in the game after Asharaf Tapsoba capitalized on a chaotic moment between the last Ghanaian defender and the goalie, Michael Armah.

Joseph Narbi scored one of the goals of the tournament to restore parity for Ghana with a splendid effort in the 27th minute of the first half.

The Starlets began the second half on the front foot as usual but failed to make the right decisions in front of goal.

However, Tapsoba stunned the host fans again after he easily moved between the two center-backs of Ghana to slot the ball past Armah in goal in the 47th minute to seal a dramatic win for Burkina Faso as they booked their place at the U-17 AFCON next year.
