The vice president of World Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, has disclosed the real reason why Ghana lost the bidding rights to the 45th World Armwrestling Championship in 2024 after initially winning it.
That would have been the first time Ghana hosted the competition after fending off fellow African bidders, Egypt.
However, Osei Asibey revealed in an interview with max.com.gh about the hate he has been receiving, especially from certain international colleagues, which led to Ghana’s bid to host the World Championships being withdrawn.
“I have become the envy of people, including the world president. He fears me, and he hadn’t spoken to me in nearly six months until four days ago. We won the bid for the World Championships, and after two months, we received a letter asking us to withdraw the bid.
I received calls from colleagues around the world informing me how he was intimidated by me. He feared that if Ghana had hosted the World Championship, he would lose in the next elections in case I decided to contest for world president.”
