Accra Great Olympics FC head coach Annor Walker has issued a warning to his players about betting, claiming that anyone caught doing so will be sacked from the club.
Match-fixing and betting rumors are still circulating ahead of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season’s completion.
Coach Annor Walker stated on the matter to a Kumasi-based FM station that any Accra Great Olympics players caught in the act will be thrown out of the club.
Coach Annor Walker said “I have warned my players not to involve themselves in betting. They do so at their own peril. I have told them that every player who gets caught will be sacked from the team, no matter his contribution to the entire team.”
Meanwhile, the coach has threatened to arrest anyone who contacts him to utilize the Accra Great Olympics games for betting purposes.
Betting and match-fixing should not be accepted in the local league, according to the seasoned coach, because it causes the league to lose its appeal.
“Our football is no longer attractive. This is not the kind of football or league we were involved in before going into coaching,” the experienced coach said in an interview with a Kumasi-based FM station.
“We didn’t hear of any betting, but now some people plan this betting before their matches. I have always said that if anyone calls me for such a thing, I will let the police arrest him or her,” added Coach Annor Walker,
