After their first ever win against Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Legon Cities coach Maxwell Konadu was full of praise for his players.
The Royals defeated the visiting Warriors 3-1 on Sunday, April 24, 2022, to hand them their second home setback in the ongoing 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League season.
Maxwell Konadu, who has coached Asante Kotoko on two occasions, reacted to his team’s triumph by saying that his wide knowledge of his former club helped them win the game.
“Both teams did well, with all due respect to my beloved club Kotoko. It’s a team I know too well and from the initial stages we practiced that we have to come and isolate their full-backs,” he said at the post-match conference.
He went on to say that they should have won the game in the first half since they had too many scoring chances but only scored two.
“I believe we could have killed the game in the first half but that is football, we go and try to improve on our finishing in our next games because despite winning 3-1 here, it is still the same three points.”
The Royals’ 3-1 victory moves them up to eighth place in the league rankings, while Asante Kotoko maintains their eight-point lead.
