On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in the Accra Sports Stadium, Legon Cities and Dreams FC played to a scoreless draw, splitting the spoils in a thrilling contest.
The only home team to win this season, Legon Cities, continued their terrible home form as they were held by a Dreams team that is now unbeaten in five games.
The “Royals” got the game going strong by pressing the Dreams’ defense early on, but they lacked a cutting edge.
Alex Aso, a striker for Legon Cities, was very active up front and made some clever runs, but players like Abdul Jalilu and Ofori McCarthy held him back by limiting his attacks.
Ahead of halftime, Dreams striker Agyenim Boateng Mensah hit the post with a close-range header. Dreams controlled the last minutes of the first half.
The second half featured some end-to-end attacking prowess from both teams and was significantly more intense.
Alex Aso of Legon Cities nearly gave his team the lead with a shot from just beyond the box, but it lacked enough force to get past Augustine Koomson of Dreams.
Midway through the second half, Dreams FC’s Abdul Aziz Issah had the game’s best opportunity, but Legon Cities goalie Slyvester Sackey brilliantly stopped his goal-bound shot.
He earned thunderous ovation from the sparse crowd in the stadium and was outstanding for Legon Cities in the closing stages of the game as he made another outstanding save from Agyenim Boateng’s well-hit long-range attempt.
Going into the final minutes of the game, both teams appeared satisfied with the points they had earned, holding on to earn a point.
