Son Heung-Min, the captain of South Korea, has said that he will be ready for the 2022 FIFA World after recovering from his severe head injury suffered during the UEFA Champions League.
Son, who was absent from Spurs’ 2-1 loss to Liverpool, might also be absent from the team’s final two games before the World Cup break.
The current EPL Golden Boot winner announced on Instagram that he would be available for the World Cup.
“Hi everyone, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for the messages of support I have received over the last week. I have read so many of them and truly, truly appreciate you all. In a tough time I receive a lot of strength from you!” he wrote.
“Playing for your country at the World Cup is the dream of so many children growing up, just as it was one of mine too. I won’t miss this for the world. I can’t wait to represent our beautiful country, see you soon,” he added.
In their aerial duel during Tottenham’s victory against Olympique Marseille in the last group stage match, Son and Chancel Mbemba collided. Memba delivered a powerful strike across Son’s left cheekbone, making contact with his shoulder.
The Korean was replaced right away while match officials made sure the proper head injury protocol was followed.
Despite being hurt, Son Heung-Min joined his teammates in celebrating Tottenham’s 1-2 comeback victory over Marseille to advance to the round of 16.
In World Cup Group H, South Korea is in addition to Ghana, Portugal, and Uruguay.
