The Ghana Premier League (GPL) might make more money from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar in one month than it would from winning the regional league four times in a row.
The 2021–2022 Ghana Premier League (GPL) champion received a prize of $25,000, therefore Ghanaian teams stand to gain more if their players are selected for Ghana’s 25-man roster for the World Cup in Qatar.
The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), according to a report published by mirror.co.uk, will pay clubs $10,000 (£9,033) each player per day during the World Cup.
The payouts are a part of FIFA’s Club Benefits Program, which the organization claims is intended to acknowledge the contribution that clubs have made to the competition.
A total of $209 million (£188.8 million) has been committed to the program, which at the last World Cup benefited more than 400 clubs from 63 different countries.
This suggests that Accra Hearts of Oak could profit significantly as their star player, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, may be the only member of the Ghana Premier League to be selected for Otto Addo’s World Cup roster.
Accra Hearts of Oak will earn more than $140,000 if Afriyie Barnieh is selected for the team and Ghana even manages to advance through the group rounds of the tournament. This is because the first round of the Mundial will be played in less than two weeks.
