At the 2023 African Nations Championships (CHAN), Morocco, Ghana’s group rival, has withdrawn from the event.
Morocco has made the decision not to compete one day before the competition in Algeria gets started.
Morocco decided to withdraw from the competition because Algeria would not let them fly their players directly from Rabat to Constantine.
The two countries have been at war since 1994 and recently decided not to have direct flights between them in 2021.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FMRF) wanted to fly their players right away, but the Algerians were hesitant to relax their restrictions even for the sake of football.
The only remaining members of Group C are Ghana, Madagascar, and Sudan as a result of Morocco’s withdrawal.
The previous competition champion, Morocco, planned to defend their title this time.
