In the case involving about 21 players from Ashgold and Inter Allies and the FA, the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) has granted a stay of execution of the decision made by the Appeal Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG) appealed through the International Federation of Professional Footballers, and CAS responded with the grant (FIFPro).
Until the final decision by CAS is rendered, all players can now play for their clubs, with the exception of Richmond Lamptey of Asante Kotoko.
When Lamptey worked for Inter Allies, he was implicated in the controversy. In a statement made on Friday, July 29, 2022, Asante Kotoko stated that the club has started the appeals procedure for his ban at CAS.
The PFAG, as a result, exempted Lamptey’s name from their appeal list.
Background
On Monday, May 16, 2022, the GFA Disciplinary Committee revealed that AshantiGold and the current Division One team Inter Allies had been found guilty of match-fixing in 2021.
Both teams have been dropped to the third-tier league in the nation. Additionally, the DC penalized both teams’ managers, coaches, and certain players.
According to the GFA, the penalties will go into force for the 2022–2023 season.
