Prosper Harrison Addo, general secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has refuted reports that money from the FIFA Forward program was used by Morocco to construct the excellent Mohammed VI Football Academy.
According to Harrison Addo, the Moroccan government made a sizeable contribution to the building of the facility, which is now frequently brought up in conversations regarding the growth of sports in Ghana.
He went on to say that such a project could not have been entirely sponsored by the FIFA Forward program.
He also voiced concern over the fact that Ghana was frequently chastised for the subpar condition of its Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence and that there had been misappropriation of cash intended for its rehabilitation.
He demanded a halt to negative comparisons of Ghana to other nations, saying that doing so made Ghana appear “poor and useless.”
Harrison Addo also mentioned that Rwanda had assistance from its government in constructing a comparable facility and lauded the nation’s initiatives in sports development.
“The FIFA forward is not $10m so they cannot build such a project only with it but their government also contributed to it,” he said on a Kumasi-based FM station.
“The same case is happening in Rwanda and we all applaud them but the comparison of others’ projects to our own making Ghana look poor and useless. It is not nice. We can all learn from them but do not make Ghana look like there is no sensible person here.”
