Gladson Awako, the Black Galaxies’ captain, claims that his team is confident going into the 2022 African Nations Championship [CHAN], but he has urged his colleagues to keep up their momentum to have a successful competition.
After defeating Nigeria to secure a spot in the competition, Ghana, who participated in the tournament final in 2009 and 2014, is returning.
The Black Galaxies won their 18-day training camp in Cairo by defeating Hearts of Oak and Legon Cities before winning against Egypt’s U-20 squad and Al Ahly.
Following their arrival in Algiers, Ghana drew with Algeria before finishing their warm-up match against Mozambique, which was abruptly called off.
The Hearts of Oak midfielder feels the Black Galaxies are in good shape and will need to sustain their momentum to be able to make a lasting impression. The match will take place on Sunday at 19:00GMT at the Chahid Hamlaoui Stadium in Constantine.
“We are here to compete,” he said. “No one goes into a competition to lose. We are confident and looking at the camp, each player is looking good and confident.
“Our preparations have gone very well, and we played two competitive friendlies in Egypt as well as here in Algeria to fine-tune our preparations.
“If we carry on with the same momentum, I think we should have a good tournament,” Awako added.
Prior to playing Morocco in the last match of Group C, Ghana will play Sudan.
